Skagboys

Just started reading Skagboys the prequel to Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting, easily one of my favourite 90s books. Can't comment yet as I am only on the first chapter but I hope it is not a "Phantom Menace" if you know what I mean.

This is in my 'to read' section of my Kindle. Might get round to it after the latest Sookie Stackhouse and Jim's new book when it arrives.

sorry forgot about this

I enjoyed the book but nowhere near as good as Trainspotting.
One for the fans rather than a casual reader.

I agree with that summing up, Dan. It was OK, but lacked the greatness of his earlier books. It was almost like Irvine Welsh by numbers.

Oh I dunno, I've really enjoyed it and had trouble putting it down the weekend I got it! It's been ages since I read Trainspotting and not re-read Porno yet. But I'm gonna be itching to re-read them both after I finish this I think. There's some proper LOL moments/lines and I think it's been a 'barry ride' into the past of the characters we know and love so well. Sadly, my OU studies will probably prevent me from having much free time to read the other books again in the immediate future. :(

I liked Porno, and Trainspotting is just a really great book. For me, Welsh will likely never better Marabou Stork Nightmares.

Another one I've not re-read! But in my defense, most of my books were in storage for about 6-7 years so I only had a few out! I've 5 months off from study next year and when I'm not doing my new house up, I'll no doubt be delving into lots of books and enjoying re-reading quite a lot that I've not read for the first time in years! :D
